Kitchen Squirrel is a household recipe, meal-planning and shopping app. This page describes what the app collects and what happens to it. The short version: it collects only what it needs to work, shows no adverts, and never sells your data or shares it with anyone for their own purposes.

What we collect

• Your email address — used to sign you in (we email you a code) and to identify your account.
• Content you create — recipes you save, meal plans, shopping lists, cooking history, ratings, and leftovers you record. Recipes captured from the web are stored as structured data with a link back to the original source.
• Photos you add to recipes — if you choose to put your own photo on a recipe, the picture is stored so your household can see it. Location and camera metadata are removed on your device before it is uploaded. Anyone in the household can remove it, and removing it deletes the file.
• Reports you send — if you report a problem with a recipe, a photo or another member's note, we keep the report, any message you add, and a copy of what was reported at the time, so we can look into it.
• A push notification token, only if you enable notifications on your device.

If you scan a recipe with your camera, the photo is processed to extract the recipe text and is not stored; location metadata is removed on your device before anything is sent.

How it is used

Solely to provide the app: syncing your household's recipes and plans between devices, building shopping lists, and sending sign-in codes. There is no advertising, no tracking for advertising, and no sale of personal data.

The app also sends us a few measurements so we can keep it quick and see what is worth improving: how long it took to open, to sync and to capture a recipe, and counts of which features were used. These carry the app version and nothing else — no recipe content, notes, names or account details.

Service providers

The app runs on infrastructure operated by a small number of processors, each used only for the purpose stated: Supabase (database hosting), Resend (delivering sign-in and invitation emails), OpenRouter (parsing recipe text during capture — recipe text only, never your account details), Sentry (crash reports so faults can be fixed), Expo (delivering app updates and push notifications), and Cloudflare (storing and serving the photos you add). All data is encrypted in transit.

Sharing between households

Your recipes, notes, plans and photos are visible only to members of your own household. The app's Discover feature shares only a recipe's public metadata — its title, source link and image link — never your notes, edits, photos or any other household content.

If something in your household is reported to us, we may hide the recipe, remove the photo or note, or remove the member responsible. Reports are seen only by us.

Retention and deletion

Your data is kept while your account is active. A photo you remove from a recipe stops being shown at once and its file is deleted from our storage; copies may remain in caches for a short time. To delete your account and all associated data, email [email protected] and it will be removed.

Children

Kitchen Squirrel is intended for adults and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above will be updated and this page will always hold the current version.
